After school Programs

PTA Afterschool Programs at Spring Glen

(The text below describes the PTA-organized enrichment programs. For information about regular before- and after-school care, see the provider Right at School’s website.)

Spring Glen hosts many afterschool enrichment programs with a wide variety of topics. They are divided into three sessions during the school year – the fall session runs from early in September through December.  Programs run one day a week, start right after the school day, and usually end between 4:30 and 4:45 PM.  Sign ups will happen during the first two weeks of school.

The PTA also supports scholarships for families who need assistance in order to participate. Our goal is for all students to be able to participate in afterschool programs if they want, regardless of their ability to pay.

Below are brief descriptions of past programs. Contact the program leader for any specific questions.  Direct any general questions about the PTA afterschool programs to the coordinator, dave.hiller@gmail.com.

  • Build a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive community among parents, students, teachers, and staff.
  • Strengthen communication between parents, the school, and the district.
  • Support additional opportunities available to all students.
  • Provide additional resources to the school.

We hope to be a source of community and connection as we respond to the unusual challenges of the 2020-2021 school year.

Our goals and dreams for the school year include:

  • A webinar series offering support and resources for our school community
  • Enrichment activities and events that allow us to connect even at a distance
  • Grants to teachers for materials and supplies
  • Providing every student with a book for One School, One Book
  • Continuing to develop Nature’s Classroom, our outdoor learning space and community garden
  • Support for Project Hope Road, which aims to bring texts written by authors of color to the children of Hamden Public Schools
  • Opportunities for school spirit and connection, including our lawn-sign initiative, spirit wear, and SGS masks
  • Providing forums for support around some of the challenges and stresses being faced by parents, staff, and others in our community
  • Strengthening our commitments around diversity and inclusion
  • Building community with other PTAs, schools, and the district as a whole

Can you help?  What ideas do you have?  How can we be together in these times?  We’d love to hear from you.  If you have not already joined the PTA, please consider doing so.

Box Top

Dear Spring Glen Families!!

Welcome back! The time has come to send in all of those Box Tops you were clipping through the summer! Many parents are already familiar with the Box Tops for Education Program, but for those who are not, this is a FREE fundraiser. Just collect Box Tops from products you already purchase and turn them in to your child’s teacher.

Each Box Top is worth 10¢ for the school. This money goes into the general treasury of the PTA to be used to fund things such as enrichment activities or other special projects which support the children and the school.

Also…this year there is a new opportunity for collecting Box Tops. Check out the information about the Box Tops App. Download offers from General Mills and when you purchase those products, the school earns money in addition to the Box Top on the packaging. More information about the app is available in this document:

Box Tops Mobile App Flyer

Spring Glen School has averaged earnings over $1000 per year for the last several years from this project.

A few times this year, your child will receive a Box Top collection sheet. These are a fun way for your child to collect Box Tops, but you may also send clipped Box Tops in an envelope or plastic bag. Consider asking relatives, neighbors or co-workers to look out for Box Tops as well. Spring Glen families have had many creative ways to find Box Tops and we still receive some from former students.

Let’s all work together to see how many Box Tops we can clip to support our school. Our first submission of the year will be at the end of October. If possible, please send any that you may have to school by 10/14/16.

Thanks for all of your support!
