2019-2020 Direct Appeal

The mission of the Spring Glen Elementary School PTA is to enrich every child’s learning experience by connecting the home, school, and community. We achieve this by:

  • Building a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive community among parents, students, teachers, and staff.

  • Strengthening communication between parents, the school, and the district.

  • Supporting additional opportunities available to all students.

  • Providing additional resources to the school.

The work of the Spring Glen PTA is made possible only through the generous support of parents and our community. Thank you! But we also know that parents, caregivers, and friends are asked to contribute to their children’s education many times throughout the year, both by the PTA and for field trips, Spirit Days, 6th grade fundraising and other non-PTA sponsored events. In our spring survey, parents indicated that 1) PTA fundraising should be less frequent, 2) the PTA should prioritize fundraising activities with lower overhead costs, and 3) there should be more information available on where the money goes. This direct appeal is in response to this feedback.

For‌ ‌the‌ ‌2019-2020‌ ‌school‌ ‌year,‌ ‌the‌ ‌PTA‌ ‌will spend approximately $33,900 to directly benefit students – approximately $85 per student. ‌This includes:

  • $20,000‌ ‌for‌ ‌school‌ ‌and‌ ‌classroom‌ ‌support‌ ‌including in-school assemblies, ‌classroom materials, ‌playground supplies, and ‌teacher‌ ‌appreciation‌ ‌event‌s.‌ ‌ ‌

  • $6,050‌ ‌for‌ events ‌such‌ ‌as‌ ‌Art‌ ‌Night,‌ ‌Field‌ ‌Day,‌ ‌and‌ ‌Invention‌ ‌Convention.‌ ‌

  • $3,300‌ ‌for‌ ‌student and family support including afterschool scholarships and funds for families in need.

  • $4,550 for administration and committees, including Diversity & Inclusion.

The PTA anticipates approximately $2,000 of this amount will be raised through membership dues and an additional $7,800 will come from events such as the Spring into Spring Glen 5K, book fairs, and the Someone Special Dance that raise funds while furthering our mission to build community and create opportunities for students. This leaves a remaining fundraising goal of $24,100. In past years this amount was raised by a series of PTA-organized fundraisers. This appeal aims to eliminate the need for fundraisers that do not benefit the community beyond their ability to raise money.

To contribute to the 2019-2020 direct appeal, please donate below or make a contribution via check. Donations of any size are appreciated so please‌ ‌consider‌ ‌making‌ ‌a‌ ‌contribution‌ ‌in‌ ‌an ‌amount‌ ‌you‌ ‌can‌ ‌afford.‌ Friends and family who would like to contribute are also welcome. 100% of the donations we receive through this appeal will go to support the mission and activities of the PTA. Questions about this appeal can be directed to president@springglenpta.org. Thank you so much for your generous support and we look forward to seeing you at all of the PTA activities and events throughout the year!

Sincerely,

The Spring Glen PTA Executive Board

Art Night 2020

This
year’s Annual Art Night will be  “A Celebration
of the Renaissance”. This event will take place on Friday; March 20, 2020 from
6:30-8:30 pm. Mr. Sullivan and the art night committee have planned over 20
wonderful hands-on art projects for Spring Glen families to enjoy.

The Art
Night Committee hopes you will consider overseeing an art activity that
evening.

You do
not need to have any artistic flair to assist the children and families. All
materials and directions will be available.

The
evening will include hands on art activities, a scavenger hunt with door
prizes, a fun photo opportunity, student musical performances and a display of
artwork from every student in the school. There will also be food and drink to
top off the fun-filled event.

Please click here to sign up to help facilitate a station that evening.

Thanking

Inviting you all to participate – Give Hamden Students more time for lunch.

Dear Spring Glen families, this is a district-wide petition to the Board of Education initiated by a Spring Glen member and fellow parent. Please help us with this effort by signing the petition. You can also help by sharing this with other Hamden parents, especially parents at other schools (and ask them to share it within their school communities). This won’t be successful if it is just a Spring Glen effort! Here is the link : https://www.gopetition.com/petitions/give-hamden-students-enough-time-to-eat-lunch.html

Thank you to all in advance!

An Important Message From the Spring Glen PTA

The Spring Glen PTA is looking for leaders interested in running a Diversity & Inclusion Committee. Calls have gone out at PTA meetings but there are still opportunities to get involved in roles of leadership and support. The PTA and Spring Glen School strive to be organizations that reflect, respect, and promote the strengths drawn from similarities and differences within the Hamden community, be they age, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, family structure, language and culture, socioeconomic status, etc. To get involved, contact Kristen Talwalkar at springglenschoolpta@gmail.com. More information about tools available from the national PTA to help with diversity & inclusion initiatives can be found online at https://www.pta.org/home/run-your-pta/Diversity-Inclusion-Toolkit.
